Adding Elbow Room in the Shower

We finally took the time to install a Moen Curved Shower Rod in our master bath. What a difference.  I wish I had taken a before picture of inside the tub to show how much more elbow room we have now. 7 inches doesn’t sound like much, but it really makes the shower seem bigger. It also feels brighter in the shower since more light is getting in.

Love it!

Home Improvement with A Spirited Child

I don’t know that I would diagnose Macy as “spirited”, but she certainly displays some spirited dimensions from time to time. After reading about how to parent a spirited child, I realize that how we handle home renovation can make or break how it goes over with Macy. Her top priority- pink bedroom walls. Ours, about 100 other projects.

I was thinking that it would be fun to move her one night after she falls asleep to the guest room and then proceed to paint her room for a big reveal in the morning. Then I remembered that the book I read said spirited children can have strong negative reactions to surprises. They become overwhelmed.

At the other end of the spectrum is letting her help- which could be disastrous. Try explaining  to a 4 year old that the color will look different once dry.

I think the way to go is to maybe narrow down the swatches to a few I can live with and let her pick. Then explain our plan to paint part of the wall in the next few weeks. This sets her expectations, while giving us some flexibility on a deadline.

Any advice? Please comment…

A Chandelier Cord Cover Cheap and Easy

Cordcover

When we first walked through the house, the chandelier in the dining room was an eye sore to us. John is still not a fan, but I have grown to appreciate its beauty.  My neighbor Kate had a cord cover on hers that really dressed it up. I decided to try that myself but I didn’t want to take the chandelier down to slip something over the chord and I didn’t want to buy one for $25.00, so I went to the fabric store and got a yard of chiffon ruffle trim for $4.00. Then I wrapped it around the chord in about 2 minutes and Voila!

Floor is Done

The floor is done in the library / playroom and it really looks great. I am so glad we went with the lighter stain because it really does look darker once it is all down.

We have to wait 2 weeks to put down our area rug and still have some other changes to make to the room, but at least we can allow the girls to be in here now and move their toys out of the living room!
